In the past trading houses had only two options: spreadsheets or big-budget custom software development programs. Now SaaS-delivered solutions combined with Cloud Computing offer a real, cost-effective alternative. With the global economy, regulatory environment and credit shrinkage increasingly mandating formalized systems for even small trading companies, SaaS offers fast-start, turnkey solutions without up-front investment or resource demands.

Cloud-based applications — aka Software as a Service (SaaS) — have seen steady growth over the past few years and will continue to grow.
Gartner, Inc., Cloud Computing: The Next Generation of Outsourcing, Ben Pring, November 1, 2010

According to Technology Research Analyst Firm Gartner…

We are in the midst of a fundamental shift, as more enterprises start to use services enabled by cloud technologies. This will heavily impact IT services providers, who must now consider strategies for coping with profound changes in the marketplace or risk being left behind.

Increasingly, hosted or SaaS-based solutions are gaining favor among end users as a means of reducing capital costs, deployment times and support overheads. While traditionally these solutions were preferred options for smaller end users or end users with limited functional requirements, as the functional capabilities of SaaS - or application service provider (ASP)-based deployments grow, the appeal to larger organizations will widen.

Danish Bunkering And Oil Derivatives Trading Company Monjasa Selects Aspect Enterprise Solutions For CTRM In The Cloud

London, June 29, 2012

Danish bunkering and derivatives trading company Monjasa is the latest trading house to go live with the AspectCTRM trade and risk management solution from Cloud vendor Aspect Enterprise Solutions.

AspectCTRM is the company’s multi-commodity trading and risk management solution based on Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) architecture and delivered in the Cloud. It provides comprehensive real-time position keeping, P&L, market risk analysis, shipping and financial operations functionality through a series of flexible modules.

Headquartered in the port city of Fredericia and with operations in Singapore, Dubai, US and Latvia, Monjasa had previously used a combination of ERP system and custom spreadsheets to manage trading, back office and physical operations. Monjasa deals in short term and long term bunkering deals of fuel oil and gas oil. It owns and operates its own fleet of tankers which act both as delivery vessels and floating storage.

Monjasa chose Aspect for a number of reasons, including its quick deployment timeframe, and because Aspect is the only Web-based solution provider that delivers all of its solutions on one platform, accessible via one password. Traders signed on to receive market data and analytics from AspectDSC, which interfaces with AspectCTRM, enabling futures, spot prices and curves to be streamed for deal valuation and real-time reporting.

AspectCTRM's inventory and storage management capability - alongside its core trade, risk and market data functionality - made the system a natural choice for Monjasa as risk manager Frank Lausen explains.

"We could see at first glance that AspectCTRM was going to do the job we wanted it for, and do it very well. It gives us a single common interface on market data, trade and risk management, and storage and inventory management. It’s easy to use and brings everything together into one seamless, effortless process," Lausen said

Aspect, which has earned a reputation for rapid go-lives due to its Cloud-based platform, configured Monjasa’s system in just a few days from contract signing to deployment. It marks one of the fastest deployments yet for Aspect.
